Surgical Approach to Coexıstıng Glaucoma and Cataract

Cataract is also frequently associated with pseudoexfoliation, which is common in Turkey. It is known that antiglaucoma drugs increase the nuclear opacities in glaucoma cases. On the other hand development or worsening of the cataract after filtrating surgery is a very well known late complication.
The patients with cataract and glaucoma at the same time create a very difficult problem for the ophthalmologists in respect to the visual rehabilitation, the preference of the appropriate surgical procedure that will lower the intraocular pressure some the ophthalmologists prefer to operate both glaucoma and cataract at the same time and others prefer a two stage approach.
We will discuss in this article how to manage the patients with cataract and glaucoma in relation to literature and our own experience. Keywords : Glaucoma, cataract, phacoemülcification, trabeculectomy, deep sklerectomy, viscocaralostomy
