Purpose: To investigate the effect of corneal collagen cross-linking (CCL) on central corneal thickness (CCT) and intraocular pressure (IOP).

Materials and Methods: CCL with 0.1% riboflavin solution and 30 min of ultraviolet A radiation was performed on the right eyes of 20 New Zealand albino adult rabbits (2.4-3.2 kg), (20 eyes). The left eyes served as control. IOP was measured using Tonopen hand-held device (corneal applanation tonometer) and CCT by the pachymeter (Accutome, AccuPachV pachymeter, USA) before treatment and weekly for one month following CCL.

Results: Before CCL, IOP readings and CCT measurements were similar between the two eyes (p>0.05). Following CCL treatment, the mean IOP was found significantly higher in the treatment group, however, mean CCT was not significantly different between the groups. (0.005 Conclusions: Measuring IOP by tonopen yielded overestimated IOP results following CCL. This may be due to the increased stiffness of the treated cornea. Keywords : Corneal collagen cross-linking, central corneal thickness, intraocular pressure
