3M.D., Isparta State Hospital, Eye Clinic, Isparta/TURKEY Purpose: To investigate effect of prostaglandin analogue (PGA) use, on efficacy and safety of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT).
Materials and Methods: Patient groups using Dorzolomid-Timolol combination (DTC), Brimonidin (Group I, n=19) and DTC, Brimonidin, Prostaglandin analogue (PGA), (Travoprost or Latanoprost) (Group II, n=17), with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and intra ocular pressure (IOP)>21 mmHg, despite the medical treatment, had SLT treatment in this retrospective study. One hour after SLT, temporary IOP elevation and inflammatory reaction were controlled. Also, IOP before SLT and after SLT at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months were evaluated. Success was defined as; IOP decrease >3 mmHg or >%20.
Results: Following the SLT, at each time interval, there was a significant IOP decrease in both Groups I and Group II. There was no significant difference, between Group I and Group II, for IOP before SLT, IOP after SLT and side effects, at each time interval. Twelve months after SLT, mean IOP decrease were (Group I and Group II, in turn) 4.05±1.84 mmHg (p=0.001) and 5.35±2.23 mmHg (p=0.001). Success rates were 68.5% and 70.6%. Temporary IOP elevations were 15%, 6 and %11.8.Temporary inflammatory reactions were %21.1 and %11.8.
Conclusion: SLT is effective and safe in patient groups using DTC, Brimonidin and DTC, Brimonidin, Prostaglandin Analogue. There was not a significant difference between PGA using and not using groups for efficacy and safety of SLT.
