Purpose: To evaluate the correlation of central corneal thickness (CCT) and axial length (AL) with peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) and ganglion cell layer - inner plexiform layer (GCL-IPL) measurements in healthy eyes.

Materials and Methods: Fifty-four cases with normal eyes were included to the study. Only the measurements of the right eyes were evaluated in the study. Fifty four eyes of 54 patients with normal eye findings were included in this study. Axial length, anterior chamber depth (ACD) and CCT values were measured. Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and GC-IPL measurements were performed with Spectral domain - optical coherence tomography. Eyes were divided into three groups according to CCT values as <555 μm, 555-588 μm and >588 μm. The relations between CCT and AL with pRNLF and GCL-IPL measurements were evaluated.

Results: 24 (44.4%) of patients were women, 30 (55.6%) were men. Mean age was 35.77±9.19 (17-56) years. The mean AL and mean ACD were 23.90±1.05 mm (21.95-25.83) and 3.24±0.33 mm (2.85-4.02) respectively. Mean spherical equivalent was 0,92±2,44 dioptry, mean CCT of eyes was 559.25±35.62 μm (508-633). There was no significant correlation between CCT and pRNFL, GCL-IPL measurements in any quadrant.

Conclusion: Ganglion cells can be damaged in early stages of glaucoma so pRNFL, GCL and IPL thickness measurements have importance in patients with glaucoma suspect. In our study, there were no correlations between CCT and these parameters in healty subjects. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to understand this relation better.
