Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of transscleral diode laser cyclophotocoagulation (TDLC) procedure in glaucoma patients with good visual acuity.

Materials and Methods: Charts of glaucoma patients underwent TDLC between January 2012 and June 2015 were reviewed retrospectively. Eyes with a baseline Snellen best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of ? 20/100 with a minimum follow-up of 6 months were included. Overall success was defined as a final intraocular pressure (IOP) between 7 and 21 mmHg. Visual acuity scores, IOP levels and total number of antiglaucomatous medication was recorded. Shapiro-Wilk test and paired samples t test were used for statistics.

Results: Twelve eyes of 12 patients (4 females, 8 males) were included. Mean age was 45.4±22.7 years (6 ? 69) and mean follow-up was 13.8±9.0 months (6 ? 35). Glaucoma diagnosis was primary open-angle glaucoma in 8 eyes (66.7%), juvenile glaucoma in 2 eyes (16.7%), aphakic glaucoma in 1 eye (8.3%) and neovascular glaucoma in 1 eye (8.3%). Pretreatment BCVA and IOP were 0.39±0.21 (20/100 ? 20/30) and 29.6±5.9 mmHg (22 ? 40), whereas they were found as 0.51±0.23 (20/100 ? 20/25) and 17.6±4.2 mmHg (12 ? 25) at the last follow-up visit (p=0.089 and p<0.001). All cases were put on 4 antiglaucomatous medication before treatment, however the mean number of antiglaucomatous medication decreased to 2.85±0.38 (2 ? 3) at the final visit (p=0.001). Overall success was achieved in 9 eyes (75.0%).

Conclusion: Transscleral diode laser cyclophotocoagulation is an effective IOP-lowering procedure; which can also be safely used in eyes with good visual acuity. Keywords : Glaucoma, transscleral diod laser cyclophotocoagulation, visual acuity
