Dr. Purpose: Compare postoperative inflammatuar reaction, between intraoperative anterior chamber 0.1 ml triamcinolone acetonid injection and peroperative 1mg/kg intravenous methyl-prednisolone usage, in üveitic cataracts.
Materials and Methods: In 1. group, that includes 15 of 30 üveitic cataract patients, after phacoemülsification and intraocular lens implantation, 0.1 ml 4 mg triamcinolone acetonid is given to anterior chamber, then anterior chamber irrigation is done. In 2. group, that includes rest of üveitic cataract patients, phacoemülsification and intraocular lens implantation is finished by intravenous usage of 1mg/ kg methyl-prednisolone. All the patients are received topical dexamethasone, ciprofloxasin, diclofenac treatments after operation. Fibrin reaction, anterior chamber cells, best corrected visual acuity, ocular pressure are evaluated in postoperative 1. day,1. week and 1. month visits.
Results: 1. group, fibrin reaction and anterior chamber cells are less then 2. group in 1. day and 1. week. These differences are statistically significant. In 1. month, there isn’t statistically significant difference between two groups. 1. day , mean ocular pressure is significantly higher in 1. group. There is no difference between two groups when 1. week and 1.month mean ocular pressure results are compared. Postoperative 1. month, mean value of best corrected visual acuity is 0.7 in each group.
Conclusion: For prevention of early postoperative inflammation, ıntraoperative anterior chamber 0.1 ml 4 mg triamcinolone acetonid injection is more effective then peroperative 1mg/kg intravenous methyl-prednisolone usage. Keywords : Uveitic cataract, triamcinolone acetonid
