Materials and Methods: The charts of 226 patients who had cataract operation performed by the same surgeon between January-April 2013, in Antalya Atatürk Hospital, were retrospectively reviewed. Included were 24 eyes of 22 patients who were in the Super Geriatric Group (80 years old and over).

Results: The baseline characteristics included 14 female and 8 male patients with mean age of 81.77. Mean follow-up time was 8.63 months and preoperative visual acuity was hand-motion in 13 eyes. All operations were under topical anesthesia except one non-cooperative patient. Intraoperative complications developed in two patients in which posterior chamber intraocular lens was implanted after anterior vitrectomy. Postoperative visual acuity was more than 0.5 in 92%. Two patients with less than 0.5 vision had previous retinal pathology. Despite refraction error below average, five previous glasses-wearers wanted to use glasses postoperatively. In the ones who were not wearing glasses previously, and had refraction below 1.50 Diopter after surgery, none of them wanted glasses.

Conclusion: Outcomes of cataract operations in Super Geriatrics is quite well, but most of them wait for surgery until their visual acuity decreased to a level of counting fingers. A successful cataract operation may increase their visual acuity and may help them to live in more comfort and with less risk of accidents. Keywords : Super Geriatrics, elderly, cataract surgery
